The Dorothy Higgins Memorial award is presented in partnership with Vee Limited.
Dorothy Higgins died of Lymphatic Cancer in October 2006 after a 14 year battle with the disease. Dorothy was always committed to beating the cancer and overcoming challenges to her everyday living.
Dorothy was really inspired when the Deaf Youth Orchestra was being setup. Sadly she never got to see their first Performance.
Andy Higgins, her son is proud to sponsor the award for Deaf musician of the Year and believes it should be given to a young Deaf musician who has overcome other barriers in their daily life to stay involved with the Deaf Youth Orchestra.
Vee Limited will sponsor Marks tuition throughout 2009/10.
The 2009 Deaf musician of the year was announced in 27th June at Leeds College of Music.
